Over Labor Day weekend I made my annual trek out to Dragon Con. I volunteer as a writer for the Daily Dragon, the “Official Source for On-site Dragon Con News and Updates.” What that means is before the Con, I sign up for a list of panels I want to cover. I attend those panels, take notes on what I hear, then I write up articles on each panel that gets posted on the Daily Dragon Online website, and printed during the Con to put out a new two-pager each day. There are 18 of us on the Daily Dragon staff covering panels or conducting guest interviews. It’s all a lot of fun!
I also have down time to attend panels just for fun, or do whatever else I might like to do during Dragon Con. For the most part I stay pretty busy. As an indie author, I try to spend a good bit of time developing relationships with other authors.
During the Con I cover panels on a wide range of tracks. Science, Space, Digital Media, Comics and Pop Art, Horror, and Young Adult Literature. I also attended panels on the Writer’s and Urban Fantasy tracks, as well as looked for new books in the Fantasy Gather.
One of my favorite events from this weekend was a Science Power Hour. The Science track put on a panel with Exhibits around a large room. Attendees went from table to table, seeing a variety of exhibits. In the picture at right, I am holding a Philippine Walking Stick brought by the University of Georgia Insect Zoo.
